Jorge Rivera is TURN’s first Organizing and Advocacy Campaign Director, a new role that will bring more of TURN’s message and organizing efforts to southern California. An experienced community organizer who lived and worked in Long Beach for many years, Jorge will focus on advancing energy and telecommunications justice in the San Gabriel Valley.
Jorge previously worked as a tenant organizer with Tenants Together and was also very involved in grassroots affordable housing efforts. He founded Long Beach Residents Empowered (LiBRE) and the People’s Resource Center and now has brought the fight for housing justice to the San Gabriel Valley as a co-founder of the Tenant’s Alliance. “Affordable housing and affordable utilities go hand-in-hand,” said Jorge. TURN’s advocacy not only helps people be comfortable and secure in their homes, it also helps them to stay in them.”
Jorge holds a joint BA in Psychology and Philosophy from California State University, Long Beach.
