Constance Slider Pierre joined TURN on May, 1 2019 as the organizing director. She has spent more than 15 years organizing, managing, and directing grassroots community, and labor-organizing campaigns. Constance has expertise in program development, organizing, coalition building, and strategic planning. She has worked on local and national organizing initiatives with Unite Here including a successful campaign that won living wages for workers in Berkeley. In 2013, Constance became the principal at Just Power Consulting, a boutique consulting firm that assists organizations with strategic planning, capacity building, and program development to build and sustain organized power.
Constance previously served on TURN’s board of directors, and says she is thrilled to be taking on a bigger role. “I especially look forward to engaging with our members and local activists on how we can raise diverse voices to demand fair rates and safe, reliable service- and speak out when we don’t get it!”
A native of Sacramento, Constance attended San Francisco State University, and California State University Sacramento, earning degrees in Broadcast Electronic Communications Arts and Government and a Master’s in Public Policy Administration. Constance currently lives in Oakland, California. Constance is also completing a memoir, Something Inside So Strongabout her experience during a five-year fight for environmental justice. She is a guest speaker at colleges and universities throughout California.
